European Competition of Innovative Ideas in Mobile Applications and Platforms



The Competition

Mobile services is one of Europe’s most dynamic sectors with a high growth potential. It is expected in the next few years that innovative services coming from this sector will have the potential to transform also other markets and business sectors, and re-invigorate the competitiveness of the EU. In this context, we are searching for entrepreneurs who are interested in establishing their own innovative company with their innovative ideas and research results from companies, universities and research institutions in the area of mobile services & applications. The 6 best business concepts will be selected to present their innovative application ideas at the MOBIP Partnership and Investment event on 31st May - 1st of June 2012 in Thessaloniki. The event will be a meeting point for SMEs, professional experts, corporations and venture capital investors to network, discuss strategies, investment opportunities and new business trends in the Mobile Value-Added Services industry.

MOBIP 2012 spans two days and is focused on providing the different players within the mobile industry with an opportunity to join hands.  The exhibitions, partnering workshops and discussions of the most up-to-date topics will be used to provide a conducive environment for the different players in the mobile industry.

Who may participate?

The competition is targeted at university students, individuals, inventors, scientific employees, postgraduates, post-doctorates and professors from universities faculties, research institutions, and young companies. Persons eligible must be at least 18 years old, and may apply individually or in teams.

How to participate

Only business concepts will be accepted and if submitted in the templates provided which are available at: selected business concepts will be invited to provide a business plan pitch on the available power point templates.


Proposals submitted will be handled with utmost confidentiality.

Selection method and criteria

The competition will be implemented in two steps: in a first step business concepts will be submitted and evaluated. The selected ones will be notified in order to present a detailed innovative application idea. Selection will be performed by an independent jury based on the following criteria:

  •  Address the development of innovative mobile applications & services
  •  Plausibility and originality of the business concept 
  • Innovation and research results as core competency of the business concept
  • Copyright protection, patent registration (IPR)
  • Promising market potential
  • Comprehensible unique selling propositions
  • Practicability of the further development steps (realisation of the business model)
  • start-up team
  • Investment potential


The six business concepts with the highest score will be selected from those submitted and will be invited to the MOBIP event on 31st May - 1st f June 2012 in Thessaloniki. Decisions made by the jury are final. The legal process is excluded.


There will be prizes for the best three innovative application ideas: 10.000 Euro, for the 1st, 7.000 for the 2nd and 3.000 Euro for the 3rd.
